Cooley v Geraldines PDF Print E-mail
Monday, 12 April 2010 00:28

Cooley Kickhams remain unbeaten in the Paddy Sheelan cup after inflicting a heavy defeat on the Geraldines in McGeough Park. The Gers opened smartly with the first two scores of the game and throughout the first half the game was evenly balanced. The half finished with the Gers leading on a scoreline of 0-5 to 0-4 giving no indication of a second half collapse from them.

Cooley started the second half in whirlwind fashion and within 5 minutes they had tacked on 1-3 without reply. The goal certainly seemed to knock the heart out of this young Geraldines team as they failed to score for the remainder of the game. Indeed Cooley were to finish with a score of 1-15 with Gavin Long most impressive playing at wing forward and scoring 6 points from play. Conor McGuinness gave an accomplished performance at midfield and Richard Brennan covered a lot of ground although wearing the no 14.

Cooley lined out as follows: 1 Simon Dullaghan 2 Ross Dullaghan 3 John Kane 4 Antoin Watters 5 Frank Murphy 6 Alan Page 7 Eddie Moley 8 Keith White 9 Conor McGuinness(0-1) 10 Aoghain McGuinness 11 Patrick Sheelan(0-3,2f) 12 Gavin Long(0-6) 13 Conor Rafferty(1-3) 14 Richard Brennan 15 Sean McDonald(0-2f) Subs used Anthony White for K.White & P.J.McGivern for C.Rafferty.

Sheelan cup in Monasterboice
An entertaining game played at a bitterly cold Monasterboice ended with honours even. Kevin Levins refereed the match and allowed it to flow which added to the enjoyment for the spectators that braved the elements. The first half was tit for tat in the scoring department and indeed in the possession stakes as well with the difference being the well taken goal scored by Cooley's corner forward Sean McDonald. The half ended with the Kickhams leading on a scoreline of 1-6 to 0-6. The second half continued in the same vein as the first with score for score and with the game entering its closing stages it looked like Cooley's first half major was going to remain the difference. However the Mairtin's best forward on view J.P. Rooney popped up on the end of a good team move to blast the ball to the back of the Cooley net and give his side a one point lead with 3 minutes remaining. This certainly seemd to be a winning score as the Kickhams applied pressure to no avail in search of an equaliser and the Mairtin's certainly passed up a gilt edged chance to put the match away when shooting wide. The Kickhams were not to be denied as Sean McDonald popped up with a fine and arguably the point of the match from play in injury time. On the resulting kick out the long whistle went and both teams would be happy to have annexed the draw. Keith White gave another fine display in midfield, although the Mairtins probably shaded it in this area. In defence Conor McGuinness was Cooley's best defender and up front Sean McDonald took the accolades ably assisted by Aoghain McGuinness.
Cooley lined out as follows: 1 Simon Dullaghan 2 Ross Dullaghan 3 John Kane 4 Antoin Watters 5 Alan Page(0-1) 6 Conor McGuinnes

7 Ambrose Kane 8 Keith White(0-2) 9 Anthony White 10 Cormac Watters 11 Patrick Sheelan(0-1f) 12 Aoghain McGuinness 13 Conor Rafferty(0-2) 14 Richard Brennan 15 Sean McDonald(1-4,3f) Subs used Frank Murphy for Cormac Watters 50min.

Cooley 0-14 v Dundalk Young Irelands 0-07 PDF Print E-mail
Monday, 29 March 2010 00:59

Cooley Kickhams remain unbeaten in the Paddy Sheelan cup after defeating Dundalk Young Irelands on a scoreline of 0-14 to 0-7 in an entertaining and keenly contested match at Fr.McEvoy Park. The match was played in what can only be described as perfect football conditions and it produced some very well taken points from play in particular from the home team. Declan McGuinness retired injured mid way through the half and Cooley lead at half time by 0-7 to 0-3 with five out of the six starting forwards contributing to their total.

The second half took a similar trend to the first with the Irelands applying some pressure without any real penetration. However the home side were not as complacant when on the offensive with Gavin Long, Aoghain McGuinness & Conor Rafferty impressing up front with some nice scores from play. In defence the entire unit closed down their direct opponents and certainly made it difficult for Young Irelands to find or create any space. Keith White had a fine match at midfield and provided the platform for the forwards with quickly delivered ball.

The Kickhams lined out as follows; 1 Simon Dullaghan 2 Ross Dullaghan 3 John Kane 4 Cormac Watters 5 Conor McGuinness 6 Alan Page 7 Ambrose Kane 8 Keith White(0-1) 9 Anthony White 10 Declan McGuinness(0-1) 11 M.J. Hanlon 12 Gavin Long(0-2) 13 Conor Rafferty(0-5,3f) 14 Aoghain McGuinness(0-2) 15 Sean McDonald(0-2f). Subs used Garoid Clarke(0-1) for Declan McGuinness

Cooley Kickhams Junior A team played their first game in the league in Clan na Gael Park on Tuesday last. The game was played at a good pace for this time of year and as all matches between these clubs it was keenly contested. Scores were at a premium during the early exchanges, however the Kickhams found some shooting boots just before the break and turned over with comfortable lead of 0-9 to 0-2. On the resumption Cooley passed up some good scoring opportunities and were certainly made to pay by the time the long whistle was blown. The vital score of the game fell to the home team with just 5 minutes remaining and the three pointer was just the spur the Clans needed to push on and win the match. Clans finished with a scoreline of 1-9 to Cooley's 0-10 in what was an entertaining game which was played under lights.

Cooley lined out as follows: 1 Gavin Mullen 2 Peter Murphy 3 Antoin Watters 4 Michael Hanlon 5 Anthony White(0-1) 6 Ambrose Kane 7 Ross Dullaghan 8 Patrick McGrath 9 Frank Murphy 10 Declan McGuinness(0-4, 2f) 11 M.J. Hanlon 12 Cormac Watters(0-1) 13 Sean McDonald(0-3, 1f) 14 Ronan Hanlon(0-1) 15 Conor Dullaghan Sub used Paul Murphy for Cormac Watters

Cooley 0-09 v Newtown Blues 0-03 PDF Print E-mail
Sunday, 21 March 2010 23:15

Cooley Kickhams chalked up another win in the Paddy Sheelan cup at the expense of the Newtown Blues at a well turned out Jimmy Pentony Park, home of the St. Nicholas Club. The Kickhams faced into a pretty stiff breeze in the opening half and led by 3points mid way through after dominating the early proceedings. Newtown Blues came more to the fore in the latter part of the half but were extremely wasteful. Half time score stood at 0-3 to 0-1 in favour of Cooley. In the second period Cooley pushed on and played more direct football which resulted in them adding a further 6 points to their tally as against the Blues 2.

The match finished on a scoreline of 0-9 to 0-3 in favour of Cooley who were much superior in fitness against what can only be described as a very much understrength Newfoundwell outfit. Best for the Cooley men on the day were J.Kane & A.Page in defence and M.J.Hanlon, C.Rafferty & G.Long in attack. Kickhams lined out as follows: 1. Simon Dullaghan 2. Ross Dullaghan 3. John Kane 4. Anton Watters 5. Frank Murphy 6. Alan Page 7. Ambrose Kane 8. Keith White 9. Anthony White 10. Declan McGuinness 11. M.J. Hanlon 12. Gavin Long(0-2) 13. Conor Rafferty(0-4) 14. Ronan Hanlon 15.
